Plasma treatment is used as a surface modification technique to prime automotive parts for improved bonding. While plasma treatment does enhance surface wetting and improve surface energy, it adds operational cost, footprint demand and offers only a small window of time for proper adhesion to occur.

Henkel's BONDERITE chrome-free conversion coatings chemically convert metal surfaces, dramatically improving adhesion of formed-in-place liquid gaskets, while eliminating the need for plasma treatment. Effective on aluminum, steel or compacted graphite iron surfaces, the coatings further enable alternative metal substrates, while providing improved sealing characteristics and manufacturing process robustness.

Typical applications include: Engine front covers, oil pans, rear seal retainers, transmission cases and covers, axle differential covers.

Since his appointment in October 2016, he is responsible for Business D...evelopment of both Surface Treatment and Ecoat technologies. Ankenbrand has over 20 years of experience in automotive and has been with Henkel since 2006. For the last 12 years, he was Business Development Specialist for the MPP coating technology and also played an integral role during the design and launch of the F-150 aluminum platform. Matt has over 21 years of experience in automotiv...e and has been with Henkel since 1996 in various roles.
